ISC 2012 Basketball Day 7 Taking Coach Photos and
the ISC Basketball Tournament
The International Sport Connection brought
together coaches from 52 districts across Uganda. Since tribal affiliation is closely tied to
district of residence in most of country of Uganda other than the capital city,
there was a diversity of participants at the 2012 training. In addition, the participants were mostly
teachers across Uganda and some players and coaches from the national leagues
who are involved in coaching upcoming youth players. This combination of different people and
backgrounds from across the country gave the 2012 ISC training richness and created
a powerful network of basketball coaches.
The ISC Basketball Coach Training was the first
residential training course conducted by the International Sport
Connection. Each morning the six teams
of coaches reported to their respective sessions. Three teams spent the morning on the court
while the other three teams rotated between three unique classroom sessions. After lunch, the teams switched from
on-the-court to the classrooms and vice verse.
After the day of intensive training, the coaches played in tournament
games.
The ISC 2012 Basketball Tournament was played
during the evenings of each day. There
was a men’s division and a women’s division.
Children were encouraged to play on the youth courts during the adult
games. Throughout the week, players
improved their skills and enjoyed the competition between the colorful
teams. On the eve of the final day of
the coach-training course, the runner-up games were played between the yellow,
green, blue, and navy teams for the women’s division. The men’s runner-up games took place between
the green, red, orange, and yellow teams.
Dinner was served in the main hall and each night
was concluded with an evening social event.
These activities included sports’ movies, skits, and music. The 1st Annual International Sport
Connection Talent Show took place on Friday night. Highlights of the evening were Ugandan
dances, comedy skits, and even an appearance from Michael Jackson! Team Navy emerged the winner of the
competition with their tribal dances and modern music styling.
Photos of each team and each participant were
collected on Friday after the week of training.
The photos will be available on the International Sport Connection
website by July 2012 (www.internationalsportconnection.org). The website will also provide the database of
the coach information to help the coaches stay connected. ISC instructors plan to use the website,
digital resources (video clips and the ISC Coaching Manual), and online sites
(Email, Facebook, and Blogger) to stay connected to the community of ISC
trained coaches.
The 2012 International Sport Connection Basketball
Training in Uganda was supported by generous contributions from the
SportsUnited division of the U.S. Department of State.
