During the month of September 2012, International Sport
Connection Assistant Director Lisa Berg visited one of the women who was
trained during the 2012 ISC Basketball Coach Training. Coach Monicca Adrone and her students and
players at Hilton High School in Mukono, Uganda enjoyed the one day clinic and
visit by the American.
Coach Monicca and Coach Berg brought students through
basketball fundamentals and proper training techniques playing fun games and demonstrating
proper techniques. Boys and girls shared
the fun in playing this new sport for Ugandans.
Coach Monicca was one of the 202 basketball coaches who
attended the 2012 ISC course that was sponsored by SportsUnited, a division of
the U.S. Department of State. Since the
training, she has shared her knowledge with fellow coaches and has impacted the
lives of over 400 student-athletes in her area.
Coach Monicca is also an active player herself and she has been
competing on the women’s team that plays in the capital city of Kampala. Coach Monicca is a role model for her
players and International Sport Connection looks forward to the wide impact
that the youth coach training will have on the entire nation of Uganda.
The mission of the International Sport Connection (ISC) is to help
coaches transition from a narrow focus on talent development and
strategy implementation, to a more comprehensive vision of coaching,
which promotes personal growth, appreciation of others, and community
development. Furthermore, ISC stakeholders seek to empower coaches with
comprehensive, high quality training, to encourage a commitment to
continuous learning, and to promote creativity in meeting the unique
challenges that arise while coaching children and youth. ISC
stakeholders are committed to providing equal opportunities for male and
female coaches, and encouraging girls to participate in sport, in
culturally sensitive ways.
Thank you SportsUnited for providing funding for International Sport Connection projects!
