After an eventful week in Texas, the ISC Ugandan
Basketball Coach Exchange continued its journey with a stop in Oklahoma. Sam Obol, Albert Aciko, Janet Nakkazi, and
Sylvia Twesigye enjoyed their time in Oklahoma watching the best basketball
league in the world during their cultural exchange tour of 2013.
“It was just like a movie,” said Coach Sam. “We met Kevin Durant at the Oklahoma Thunder
game.” Coach Sam and the other Ugandan coaches follow the NBA action from half-way around the world but none of them ever
dreamed that one day they'd get to meet Durant.
Basketball in Uganda is still a sport in its infancy. Ugandans have limited access to international
basketball leagues such as the NBA. This International Sport Connection Coach Exchange Tour allows the
Ugandan basketball coaches access to elite coaches, competitive games, and
valuable training information that is very limited in their country.
“ISC has provided us with an opportunity we
couldn’t get in our own country. This
tour has changed my life,”
explains Coach Sam.
Thank you to SportsUnited, a division of the U.S.
State Department for funding this International Sport Connection Cultural
Exchange. For more information, visit
