Following the Impact of the ISC: Growing the Game for Girls Mbale

Mbale is a town in Eastern Uganda.  In the distance you can see the top of Mount Elgon that lies near the border of Uganda and Kenya.  There is something special about the mountain air of Mbale.  It is usually a wet place filled with mud, where most villagers’ daily activities deal with agriculture.  When you look closer, there are hidden fields where soccer is placed throughout this place.  It is also the town where some of the greatest talent in young soccer players can be found.
ISC Assistant Director, Lisa Berg, arrived at the Mbale Secondary School soccer field early on the first morning of the tournament.  It was the Airtel Rising Stars U17 Tournament for boys and girls.  Teams were arriving from around the region and Coach Berg was excited to get to meet and interact with the coaches.  She was happy to meet many coaches who were trained by the International Sport Connection in the past.

Coach Dennis Watuke was trained in 2011 and he brought a team of girls from high in the mountains.

"It was great to see my ISC Instructor again since my training.  They inspired me to get out in my community and work with youth teams."

Over the 3 days of the tournament ISC Assistant Director and other administrators in Ugandan football chose the best of the best to try to make the youth national team later in the year.
