International Sport Connection Assistant Director Leads CAF Advanced Coach Training

In August of 2012, the Assistant Director of the International Sport Connection, Lisa Berg, was the lead instructor for the Confederation of African Football Association’s first licensing course for advanced coaches in Uganda.  During the CAF “C” course, Lisa Berg taught many of the previously trained ISC coaches from the 2010 and 2011 soccer programs.  Lisa worked alongside 2010 ISC trained coaches, Majidah Nantanda, and Paddy Kintu as instructors in the course.  Some of the other participant coaches that were trained by the International Sport Connection in past programs were Mathias Lule, Joseph Mutyaba, Immaculate Nankya, Faridah Bulega, Peter Onen, and Jackson Nyiima.

Coach Lisa Berg, structured the curriculum of the course based on the CAF guidelines and incorporated ISC materials on sports psychology, mentoring, communication, and sports nutrition.  She led on-the-field practical sessions and classroom theory lectures.  There were 40 coaches who attended the 2-week residential training.

American Coach Berg explains the importance of the training for the future coaches of Uganda:

“It was an honor to be a part of continuing to build relationships and grow the game for future generations by starting with coaches.  The International Sport Connection’s mission is to help expand opportunities for coaches.  Through this course we encourage coaches to go beyond the X’s and O’s and develop mentoring relationships with their players.”
